The storyWhy this reference matters
Tsuno is Japanese for horn, and it describes exactly what you're looking at: the crown and both chronograph pushers climb to the top of the case, between eleven and one. Citizen launched the shape in 1973 on a panda-dial racing chronograph, and English-speaking collectors christened it the bullhead. The practical benefit is real and rarely mentioned: with the controls up there, the back of your wrist doesn't jam into the crown every time you bend it, which is the curse of every large chronograph.
This reference isn't celebrating 1973, though. It celebrates 1976, the year Citizen launched the world's first light-powered analogue watch, the seed of what would later be called Eco-Drive. That technology turns fifty now, and the brand picked two models to mark it: a Skyhawk limited to 5,200 pieces and this Tsuno Chrono limited to 5,000, both shown in September 2026. Half the internet has the anniversary wrong and files it under the bullhead.
The styling points at 1976 rather than 1973 as well: dark British racing green, yellow gold plating over steel, brown leather strap. Citizen says it was looking at the classic cars of those years, and you can see it right down to the crystal, which here is domed sapphire, bulged like the period plexiglass, instead of the obligatory flat disc. Part of the dial is made from recycled material.

IdentificationHow to tell it apart
The first thing that separates it from the rest of the Tsuno line is the dial: very dark green, near enough black indoors, with the subdials darker still and gold detailing. The 2023 edition for the bullhead's fiftieth, the AV0072-01X, is gold with four black subdials, orange chronograph hands and a 45 mm case, and it was limited to 3,000 numbered pieces. If the listing says panda, gold or numbered, it isn't this watch.
This one's numbers: 44.5 mm across, 15.3 mm tall, 140 grams, steel case with yellow gold plating. Domed sapphire, twenty bar of water resistance and a leather strap on a deployant clasp with pushers. The run is 5,000 pieces, not individually numbered, so don't go hunting for an edition number engraved on the case back. There isn't one, and its absence doesn't make the watch a fake.
On the functions, the E210 is an Eco-Drive chronograph reading to a fifth of a second over twelve hours, with flyback (one press resets and restarts without stopping first), plus an alarm, a date and a power reserve indicator on the dial. Eight months of running time from a full charge. If the watch in front of you has no reserve indicator, it's a different Tsuno.
CollectingWhat collectors check
Citizen's limited editions follow a familiar pattern: they sell well for a year, then sit still, unless they land on a model with a cult behind it. The Tsuno has one, and not for the reason people assume. The controls-on-top silhouette is odd, awkward to photograph and hard to copy, which is exactly why it works. What you have to weigh here is that a run of 5,000 is generous and unnumbered, so scarcity won't be doing any of the arguing.
Three checks before you buy. The gold plating on the bezel and the flanks is the first thing to go on a 44.5 mm watch that keeps meeting door frames; hold it up to the light and look along the edges. The crystal is sapphire, but being domed it takes impacts on the raised rim, so run your eye round the whole perimeter. And the original leather strap with its deployant clasp is worth real money, because a generic replacement is visible from across the room.
Three things with almost the same name get muddled in the market: the catalogue Tsuno Chrono Racer, the 2023 bullhead fiftieth and this one, the 2026 Eco-Drive fiftieth. All three share the E210 calibre and the silhouette; only the colour, the size and the case back tell them apart. Always get the full reference in writing before you pay.
