In brief

Seiko followed the 62MAS with the 6105, and the change everyone remembers is on the outside: an asymmetric case with the crown tucked behind a guard at four o'clock, a shape that set the look of the brand's divers for a generation. Two references matter — the 6105-8000, smooth bezel, the first generation, and the 6105-8110, toothed bezel, the one people recognise.

Short history

Cinema made it famous. Martin Sheen's character wears one in Apocalypse Now (1979), and that is where the unofficial nickname "Captain Willard" comes from — collectors use it constantly, Seiko never has.
