Calibre 680 — the ladies' calibre with a date

Omega used the same recipe on the ladies' side as on the men's: take the 17-jewel base and add a date. The 680 is the result, the women's counterpart to the 610.

Short history

Adding a date to a ladies' calibre in 1963 did not mean designing a new movement. The 680 sits on the 6xx base, and that base was never purely a manual one — Omega had taken its bridges, wheels and most of its jewelling from the automatic 5xx calibres and used them across both ranges. Fewer parts to make then; fewer parts to hunt for now. Like the rest of the series it is honest work rather than showpiece work, and the family filled Genève and De Ville watches accordingly. The series lasted until 1974, when Omega wound it up with quartz already dominant in its home market.
