Calibre 630 — one more variant of the 6xx series

There is not much to single out here. The 630 arrived in 1962 on the same bridges and wheels as the rest of the manual 6xx family, without the technical peculiarity that marks out some of its siblings.

Short history

1974 is where the series ends: Omega stopped building the manual 6xx calibres that year, with quartz in control of the Swiss market. The 630 had been in the catalogue since 1962, one of a long list of variants running on parts the automatic 5xx calibres had already paid for — bridges, wheels and a good share of the jewelling common to both families. That kept costs down at the factory, and it is why spares still surface today. Movements from this series fill the Genève and De Ville watches of the decade.
