Calibre 620 — the ladies' hand-wound of the 6xx family

The smallest end of the manual 6xx range is where the 620 sits — a ladies' calibre built on the same bridge and wheel architecture as its larger siblings, in reduced dimensions.

Short history

Take a 620 apart and the components are the ones Omega used in its automatic 5xx calibres: the same bridge layout, the same wheels, most of the same jewelling. Sharing them across two ranges kept the parts list short at the factory in 1960, and it keeps these movements repairable now. There is no pretension in the thing, and the series behind it turns up most often in the Genève and De Ville of the period. The manual line stopped in 1974, by which time quartz was dominant in Switzerland.
