Calibre 610 — the 600 with a date

In brief

A date window is the one thing the 610 adds. Underneath it is the 600 — 17 jewels, Reed regulator, the same architecture — so the simplest hand-wound calibre in the family picked up a function without being redesigned.

Short history

Like every 6xx calibre, this one uses the bridges, wheels and much of the jewelling of Omega's automatic 5xx movements. The reasoning was industrial, fewer separate components to make, and the benefit has outlived the factory: parts still swap between the two families. Nothing about it is showy, and you find it by the hundred in Genève and De Ville watches. The manual series was discontinued in 1974, once quartz had the Swiss market.
