Calibre 1040 — Omega's first automatic chronograph

In brief

Omega had never had an automatic chronograph of its own. This was the one, developed with Lemania from the 1340 ébauche: 22 jewels, 28,800 vph, a quickset date and a 24-hour indicator.

Short history

Omega and Lemania worked on the movement together for 1972, taking the Lemania 1340 base into what is also catalogued as the Lemania 1341. It went into the Speedmaster Professional Mark III (ref. 176.002), shown in 1971 and built for only a couple of years, with oversized chronograph hands, a 12-hour counter at six and a 24-hour indicator at nine.
