Calibre 1020 — the mid-1970s revision

In brief

Seventeen jewels, a date, 28,800 vibrations per hour — on paper the 1020 reads much like the calibres that came before it. The difference is in the construction: Omega reworked the architecture of its automatic family halfway through the decade while leaving the numbers of the first 1010, 1011 and 1012 alone.

Short history

The 1020 appeared around 1975, an in-decade update to the 1010 family that held on to the high beat separating the whole 10xx series from the 5xx automatics of the 1960s. By then quartz was pressing hard on Swiss mechanical watchmaking.
