The storyWhy this reference matters
Christopher Ward began with a conversation on a boat on the Thames in May 2004, between Christopher Ward, Mike France and Peter Ellis. In June 2005 they launched the brand from a converted chicken shed on a Berkshire farm, with an idea that sounded odd at the time: sell Swiss watches online only, with no shop and no distributor in the middle. In 2008 they started working with Synergies Horlogères in Biel, and that is where the project stopped being a pricing experiment and became a brand with its own watchmaker.
The Trident is their dive line and has been their best seller for years. The fourth generation, the C60 Trident Pro 300, arrived in the summer of 2022, and its development had an unusual wrinkle: the brand asked its own forum what people wanted. Three non-negotiables came out of that — a slimmer case, a redesigned bezel and a display back. All three made it into the finished watch, which is not always how it goes when a brand says it listens to its community.
The technical trade was giving up the Trident Pro 600's 600 metres in order to lose thickness. At 300 metres of water resistance the case slims by as much as 1.9 mm depending on size: the 40 mm comes in at 11.3 mm, more than a millimetre and a half under its bigger brother. The dial was tidied up too — the brand name at nine disappeared, leaving only the twin-flag emblem at twelve, and the date moved from three to six.

IdentificationHow to tell it apart
The bezel is this generation's signature and it comes in two parts: an outer steel ring with a rotating ceramic insert, and a fixed inner steel ring with the minute scale engraved into it. The Trident Pro 600 has no such double texture. The twin-flag emblem also sits alone at twelve, with no brand name printed on the dial — on the previous generation it appears at nine.
The seconds hand gives away the model and even the dial colour. It carries the trident counterweight the whole line uses, but the tip is coloured to match the word «Automatic»: red on the black dial, orange on the blue, the white and the green. Below it reads «300m|1,000ft». Through the screw-down display back you can see the Sellita SW200-1 with its colimaçonné finish and the emblem engraved on the rotor.
Dimensions change with the size and are worth memorising: the 38 mm is 11 mm tall and 45 mm lug to lug; the 40 mm is 11.3 mm and 47.45 mm; the 42 mm is 11.5 mm and 49.3 mm. The 44 mm came later. The reference encodes all of it too: in C60-40ADA31S0KK1-B0, the 40 is the diameter. The Bader bracelet is the fully brushed Oyster type; the Consort is the other catalogue option.
CollectingWhat collectors check
The Sellita SW200-1 is a familiar workhorse and cheap to keep running, but Christopher Ward specifies it to −5/+12 seconds a day. Check that before you accept a second-hand example: this is the kind of movement that goes years without complaining and then, if it has been magnetised or badly regulated, runs off with no shame at all. Real reserve, 38 hours.
On the bezel, look at the edge of the ceramic insert and the chamfer on the steel ring. That is the area that meets a door frame first and hides the damage worst. Try a full rotation, all sixty clicks, and make sure there is no play when you let go halfway round. On the bracelet, the links are held by screws rather than pins: they work loose with wear, so check none is halfway out.
One point in this brand's favour: it sells direct and gives a sixty-month guarantee on the movement, so a recent watch with its original invoice may still reach you covered. Always ask for it. And mind the variants: the quick-release system makes it easy for a seller to mix in a strap or bracelet from another reference without mentioning it.
